Is Mirbeau Inn & Spa In Plymouth Worth Visiting?
An enthusiastic yes. I’ve been a big fan of the Mirbeau location in Skaneateles for a while now, and had high expectations going to the Plymouth location, and it didn’t disappoint. Both properties are similar in that they’re designed to transport you to the French countryside, and the grounds are inspired by Monet’s lily pond gardens – there’s even a bridge replica, which is the perfect touch.
On top of that, the rooms are spacious and feel luxurious, as each one comes standard with a fireplace and soaking tub. They make for a relaxing and luxurious getaway.
And of course, the spa is fantastic. I’ll go into more detail on my experiences at the spa later in the post, but every service I’ve had here has been worth the money.
Review Of The Plymouth Mirbeau Inn & Rooms
The rooms at the inn are really lovely, and offer lots of comforts that allow you to truly relax. In addition to the usual things you typically find at nice hotels, each room at Mirbeau in Plymouth comes with:
- A gas fireplace
- Soaking tub
- A welcome kit that includes a bath bomb and relaxing lavender sleep spray (complimentary!)
- Complimentary reusable water bottle
- Sound machine
- Smart TV so you can stream your favorite shows
- Luxury Frette bed linens
- Signature Mirbeau toiletries in the bathroom, including a eucalyptus shower spray
- Spacious bathroom with a double vanity and separate walk-in shower
When you walk into your room, you’ll find the sound machine playing soothing spa music, so it’s really hard to not immediately release all that stress and tension as you get settled in.
The one thing I will say about the rooms at Mirbeau is that I’m not crazy about the overall aesthetic. It’s very opulent and – I hate to say it – dated. I feel that the rooms could use a more modern refresh, and better combine the French provincial aesthetic with an updated and modern spa feel to evoke even more luxury. All the furniture is very dark, and the rooms I’ve stayed in have all been a purple color with purple toile upholstery. It’s just not my thing, and I tend to hear from others that have stayed here that they feel the same way.
That said, this never impacts my stay, and it’s a minor flaw in an otherwise lovely space.
Tip For Room Selection: Unless you require the space of a suite, I think the best deal is the King Guest House Room with Garden View and Patio. This room was only $10-$20 more than the cheapest room (on average), and it’s plenty spacious for 1-2 people. It also has a nice little patio that’s perfect for morning breakfast or afternoon coffee while overlooking the bridge and gardens – this makes for a great excuse to get room service 😉
Review Of The Plymouth Mirbeau Spa
I absolutely love the spas at all the Mirbeau locations, and the Plymouth spa is no exception. One thing I will say is that I’ve only ever visited the Plymouth spa location on weekdays when it’s typically quieter and less busy. But, I have been to the Skaneateles spa location on Saturdays, and never found it to feel overwhelming or overbooked. That said, there are some reviews online that do complain that the weekends do feel more lively.
The spa treatment rooms I’ve always found to be perfect. Each room has a fireplace, which provides an extra relaxing atmosphere for unwinding, and the rooms are always kept to the perfect temperature – I’ve never been too hot or too cold during treatments. The massage beds are also heated to that added touch of luxury.
Over the years of visiting Mirbeau, I’ve had massages, manicures, pedicures, and body scrubs. I’m not a facial person, so I haven’t had those done personally, but my mom absolutely adores her facials at Mirbeau. And I’ve always had a great experience with all the spa services.
Personal Suggestion: I have found that the Signature Massage is a bit too light in terms of pressure, so I usually go for the deep tissue option instead. If you have lots of tension and knots, I don’t think Mirbeau’s Signature Massages will offer enough pressure. I’ve even found the deep tissue massages to be moderate in pressure at Mirbeau. However, the technique during the massage is amazing, and I always feel great once the massage is over. It’s just not the best place for intense muscle and body work.
Mirbeau Plymouth Spa Amenities:
When you book a service at the spa, you have access to all the spa amenities, which includes the changing room, robes and slippers, the aqua terrace, steam room, showers, relaxation area, fitness center, and yoga classes.
The aqua terrace is the one amenity I think most people will enjoy, and it’s definitely one of my favorites, too. It’s also what I think sets Mirbeau apart from other spas. The aqua terrace is open year-round, and features a heated whirlpool with massaging jets, a fireplace for a relaxing ambience, a bar that offers drinks and snacks, and a solarium.
The Plymouth location also now features three cabanas at the aqua terrace, and if you’re staying at the inn, you’re given priority for reserving one. There’s no fee to use the cabanas, but there is a food and drink minimum to spend.
One thing to keep in mind is that while Mirbeau is generally a quiet and relaxed spa, the aqua terrace does tend to be the most busy area of the facility, so this is something to keep in mind. I’ve never found it overwhelming, but I wanted to mention it so you can adjust expectations. The actual whirlpool is also pretty small, so I while it never feels super busy, it doesn’t usually feel like an oasis, either. But it is a fun and relaxing place to hang out while at the spa.
The Plymouth location also has a beautiful solarium, which is just off the aqua terrace. Inside is a nice fireplace, and I found it to be the perfect place to enjoy reading a book, while enjoying a drink and a snack from the terrace bar.
I also really love the relaxation area, which is where you’ll wait for your spa appointment. This is the area of the spa where a quiet and calm atmosphere is the most encouraged, and you’ll find candlelight, serene music playing, loungers for napping and relaxing, and a nice little foot-soaking pool. The loungers are very comfortable, and I’ve definitely dozed off several times in here. They also have cucumber water and fruit in this area, as well as cucumber-infused moist towels to drape on your head while you relax.
One thing to note about the relaxation area is that this is where you wait for your name to be called for your spa appointment, so it tends to be the most crowded at the top of the hour when everyone is scheduled for their services. Between quarter-of and the top of the hour, the loungers are usually full, and the foot-soaking pool is also pretty crowded. Once everyone is called in for their appointments, though, it gets very quiet and loungers are always available.
I’ve never taken advantage of the fitness center or yoga classes, but those are definitely worth checking out, as they’re included with your spa appointment.
Things To Know When Visiting The Spa
✓ There are secure lockers for your things, protected by a combination that you set yourself. No need to bring a lock!
✓ Locker rooms are well-stocked with nice showers, toiletries, bathroom stalls, and getting-ready counters with hair dryers and pretty much everything else you could need.
✓ If you’re staying at the inn, you have access to the spa for the entire duration of your stay. Each time you visit the spa, you do have to check in at the desk before entering, and check out as you’re leaving. But other than that, it’s easy to visit, and you can stay as long as you want. This is a great perk, and excellent reason to just splurge on an overnight getaway at the property.
✓ If you’re not staying at the inn, it’s good to know that they do restrict your arrival time to just 1 hour before your spa appointment to discourage crowds. You can stay as long as you’d like after your appointment, but this is something to consider if you booked your first appointment later in the day.
Are The Mirbeau Spa Packages Worth It?
Yes! In fact, I think you do enjoy a bit of savings with their packages, and highly recommend booking one of them if you wanted a spa service and lunch. This makes for the perfect relaxing day, as you can then also enjoy the spa amenities like the relaxation room, aqua terrace, solarium, and steam room. The least expensive package doesn’t offer a huge savings, but the savings go up with the bigger packages.
Mirbeau offers three spa and lunch packages for individuals, and one package for couples. Keep in mind that packages include access to all the spa amenities mentioned above, too. Here’s a breakdown of the packages for individuals:
A Touch Of Class package includes (1) 50 minute spa service, and lunch. This is the least expensive package opinion.
Monet’s Palette package includes (2) 50-minute spa services, or (1) 100-minute spa service, and lunch. This is the one I most frequently book.
Just A Day Away package include a manicure, pedicure, (2) 50-minute spa services or (1) 100-minute spa service, and lunch.
Lunch in the day packages includes a $40 credit to spend. If you don’t quite spend the $40 credit at lunch, you can save the rest to use elsewhere on the property. If you spend more than $40 at lunch, the difference is just added to your final bill.
All packages include spa gratuity, so the only additional expense is dining gratuity for lunch, at your discretion, and any additional things you choose to buy like snacks and drinks at the aqua terrace.
Why I think the day packages are worth it
Having done the math for all the different packages available, and comparing an a la carte lunch, spa service, and gratuity with the total price of the day packages, I’ve found that you usually save around $20 with the A Touch of Class package, $40 with Monet’s Palette package, and about $100 with the Just A Day Away Package. If you’re looking for the best deal, the Just A Day Away package is the way to go, and will definitely fill up an entire day at the spa.
It’s good to know, however, that keeping to just $40 at lunch at the Bistro is, well … a challenge 😂 So, if you’re planning to go all out during lunch, the spa packages may not offer as significant of a savings. It’s an expensive place to dine, and once you have a drink (be it alcoholic or not), a first course, and a second course, you’re likely already over $40. I usually spend about $50 at lunch here with just a drink, small appetizer like soup, and a sandwich. So while I still do think the packages are worth it, this is something to keep in mind.
Room Service At Mirbeau
At the Plymouth location, there is a room service menu for both lunch and dinner. For this, you just press the Room Service button on your room’s phone to be connected, and place your order.
For breakfast, each room comes with a door tag where you can order breakfast for the next day. Fill out all your selections, as well as the time you’d like it delivered, and hang it on the outside of your door before 2am. I love this system, and it makes for the perfect way to wake up and start the day. This is another reason why I suggest getting a room with a patio – breakfast overlooking the gardens is so lovely!
Pro Tip: All room service bills will include a small delivery charge, and 20% gratuity is automatically added, so you won’t need cash for a tip.
Review Of The Plymouth Mirbeau Restaurant
I also think dining at Mirbeau’s restaurant for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner is absolutely worth it. Many of the tables in the dining area have a view of the Monet-inspired gardens, and the food is always excellent.
In the warmer months, the covered deck overlooking the gardens is open, and this is such a great place to enjoy a breakfast, lunch or dinner. However, as mentioned, many of the indoor tables also have a view of the gardens, and they’re especially pretty during spring and summer – and even under a blanket of snow in the winter.
The Mirbeau Bistro & Wine Bar menu at the Plymouth location is posted on their website, so you’ll be able to check out the options ahead of time, but they feature everything from soups and salads, to sandwiches and pizzas for lunch, and nice entree options for dinner like fresh seafood and fillet mignon.
During lunch, guests are also welcomed to dine in their robes until 4pm, which is a nice way to stay cozy and relaxed.
Pro Tip: If you enjoy lunch between spa services, you don’t need to check in and out of the spa to dine at the Bistro. You can simply exit the spa area, make the short walk to the Bistro in your robe (all indoors), and head back to the spa when you’re done with lunch.
How Many Nights Do You Need At Mirbeau Plymouth
The great thing about a stay at Mirbeau is that you can easily spend one night and have a great experience, but it’s also perfect for a weekend getaway. In general, it really depends on how long you’re planning to visit Plymouth for.
I do recommend at least 1 night at Mirbeau where you stay, enjoy your room, and dine right at the hotel and not leave the property to full immerse yourself in the experience (and get your money’s worth at the spa!). And then if you’re visiting Plymouth to sightsee, add on additional nights from there where you can go out to dinner around town, but have your cozy spa room to come back to each night.
Mirbeau Plymouth Inn & Spa Location
Plymouth is located in Massachusetts along the coast between Boston and Cape Cod. Plymouth is packed with so many great things to do including historical sights, wonderful restaurants, boat tours, parks, beaches and more, and makes for a lovely New England getaway.
Mirbeau is just a 10-12 minute drive to downtown Plymouth, making it a convenient location when visiting the area. It’s set in a more residential area near a golf course, and it’s quieter than the downtown area.
Best Time To Visit Mirbeau
Mirbeau is honestly great year-round, and having been to the Skaneateles location in the winter, spring and summer, I love all the seasons for a visit! That said, many folks prefer visiting in the summer when the gardens are at their peak, and the weather is the warmest for relaxing by the aqua terrace.
And while summer is beautiful at Mirbeau, I especially love fall and winter. It’s actually quite magical to sit out on the aqua terrace on a chilly day – even better in a snow fall. I know that’s not everyone speed, but I say that just to show that all seasons are great for a visit.
The best prices can be found in the off-season, so if you’re looking for the best pricing, November-March is when you’ll find the lowest rates for accommodations at the inn. November is one of my favorite times to visit because foliage peaks a bit later in Plymouth compared to the rest of New England, so if you visit in early November, you can usually catch some foliage color, and enjoy cheaper rates at the inn at Mirbeau.
What’s NOT Worth Doing At Mirbeau
While the manis and pedis I’ve gotten at Mirbeau have been really great, I don’t necessarily think that these are always going to be worth the cost for everyone. They’re pretty expensive, especially at the Plymouth location, and while they do an incredible job with massages, exfoliation, hydrating masks, and fast-drying polish treatments, this is one service I would say you could likely skip, as I think you get more for your money with a massage, facial, or body treatment.
But if you’re just really feelin’ a mani and pedi, go for it at Mirbeau! They’ll do a great job, and it’s always nice to treat yourself. This is really just my suggestion if you’re torn on what services to take advantage of.
One thing to note, too, is that if you book the Just A Day Away package, it includes a mani and pedi, and you’ll save about $100 total compared to paying for each service included in the package individually. This is something to keep in mind.
What I Don’t Love About Mirbeau
As mentioned, the style of the rooms isn’t quite my taste and feels dated, but I’ve already talked about that, so let’s move on 😉
My only other minor grievance is that I do wish the aqua terrace was bigger. The whirlpool itself is quite small, and especially if you’re there by yourself for a relaxing day away, it’s hard to find a spot away from people because most folks are there with other people. The same goes for the space around the whirlpool on the terrace, too. I’d love to see a renovation where the aqua terrace is expanded someday, but this is also just a very minor complaint.
Mirbeau Plymouth Vs. Mirbeau Skaneateles
Having been to both, I’m happy to report back on if one location is better than the other. And honestly, not really. The Mirbeau Skaneateles location is the original, and the Plymouth property is the one most similar to Skaneateles. Both are designed to evoke the ambience of provincial France and Monet’s gardens, and feel like a true escape from the world around you.
The biggest differences is that the Plymouth location tends to be a bit more expensive than the Skaneateles property, and the Plymouth property gardens are a bit smaller. I do think the gardens at the Skaneateles location are more impressive, and the rooms are better designed around the gardens at the Skaneateles location. But I found the spa services and facilities at the Plymouth location to be more expansive.
That said, these are minor differences, and you honestly can’t go wrong with either location.
Can Mirbeau Gift Cards Be Used At The Plymouth Location?
Yes! All Mirbeau gift cards can be used at any of the locations and properties, including at the Plymouth location. They can be redeemed for spa services, dining, accommodations, and at their boutique.
What To Pack For A Stay Or Visit At Mirbeau
A visit to Mirbeau means they’ve pretty much thought of everything to help you have a great experience, so you really don’t need to bring much. If you’re staying overnight at the inn, you’ll of course want to bring your suitcase or overnight bag with all your clothes, toiletries and essentials.
Other than that, I only have two suggestions on things to pack that you may not have thought of:
✓ Swimsuit if you plan to spend time in the whirlpool at the aqua terrace.
✓ A book for enjoying in the relaxation area (if that’s your thing), or for dining at lunch if you’re visiting solo.
Best Way To Book Your Mirbeau Stay Or Spa Visit
If you’re planning to stay at the inn, I recommend booking your room online, and then calling the spa to make your appointments, especially if you’re booking a day package.
Once you have your room booked, it’s best to call Mirbeau directly to make your day package reservation at the spa to ensure you get the package pricing. Everything will be noted on your reservation when you arrive, and both the spa and Bistro are great at knowing what package you have booked to tailor your experience accordingly. The representatives that make your appointments will usually try to find the most convenient times for you as well to plan the perfect day.
If you don’t need to book a spa package, and are only going for an individual spa service, you can make your reservation online for the Plymouth location. Day packages can’t be booked online, though.
Dining reservations at Mirbeau Plymouth can be made online via their website if you’re just planning to visit for lunch or dinner. You don’t have to be a guest at the hotel or spa to dine at the restaurant.

Tips For Visiting Mirbeau In Plymouth
✓ Book in advance! I’m finding that reservations at the spa have been filling up faster at the Plymouth location lately, and they do recommend on their website to schedule appointments for the spa at least 8-10 weeks in advance, and possibly even more if you plan to visit on a weekend.
✓ Pricing is different on certain days. You can save money by booking spa services Monday-Thursday, as they discount their prices on these weekdays. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, you’ll pay a bit more. All prices for each day are listed on their spa price list, so you won’t have any surprises when it comes time to pay your bill.
✓ Plan to have lunch in your robe (until 4pm), as mentioned! This helps to keep you relaxed during your spa visit. It’s definitely not required, but most folks visiting both the spa and bistro dine in their robes for lunch. So don’t worry, you won’t be the only one.
✓ Plan to spend time in your room, if you’re staying at the inn. As mentioned, the rooms offer really nice amenities, and come standard with soaking tubs and fireplaces, so I always recommend you spend at least one full night in your room to really take advantage of it. Take a bath, cozy up with a book or a fun TV show with the fireplace on, admire the view of the gardens, and really get your money’s worth!
✓ If you are staying at the inn, be aware that housekeeping does come around dinner time to check on you, and ask if you need anything. This is a great service, but if you’re all set for the night, I recommend putting your Do Not Disturb tag on your door so they know you’re all set. They came once while I was in the bath, and it took me by surprise during my first visit.
✓ You can tip housekeeping by filling out a form in your room. Did you forget cash? I feel you because I’m that person who never has cash on them. If you don’t have any to leave a tip for housekeeping, look for the card in your room that allows you to add it to your final bill. Cash is always best, but this is awfully convenient if you forget.
✓ Respect the relaxing atmosphere. This goes for pretty much every spa, but it’s always good to come prepared for a quiet and relaxing getaway, which means respecting quiet zones and quiet hours at the inn. Many people use certain areas of the spa to meditate and even nap – and you should, too! 😊
Is Mirbeau Expensive?
There’s no other way to say it – yes 😂 Mirbeau is an expensive spa destination. But that said, I don’t think it’s completely out of reach for anyone looking to pamper themselves. I think it toes the line well between luxury and exorbitant, and you get a lot for your money.
I usually ask for gift cards for my birthday and Christmas, and then love to cash them in for an overnight stay, or a day at the spa (or both, if I’ve saved up enough). I have also paid completely out of pocket without gift cards for stays and spa days, and I always feel like it’s money well-spent – especially after an especially stressful time of the year like the holidays.
But even if you just book one spa service, you’ll be able to access all the spa facilities, which is a great option for those on a budget that really need to unwind.

That’s A Wrap On My Review Of Mirbeau In Plymouth!
And there you have it – my completely honest opinion on if Mirbeau in Plymouth is worth it. While it’s not absolutely perfect, it’s very close, and every experience here has been wonderful and relaxing. As a fan of the Bistro, the soaking tubs in every room, the beautiful Monet gardens, and the relaxing spa facilities, it’s definitely worth booking a day at Mirbeau at least once to experience it for yourself. Happy spa-ing!
