Nantucket Island is known as one of the most picturesque and charming destinations in the U.S., and makes for a spectacular beach vacation in the summer. The Wauwinet is the best oceanfront luxury resort on the island, and while Nantucket is known for luxury accommodations and vacation rentals, The Wauwinet is the best place to stay if you’re looking for a quiet and relaxing beachfront getaway at the ocean.

I will definitely go back!”
– TripAdvisor Review (read more here)
One of the best summer resorts on Martha’s Vineyard that’s absolutely perfect for both adults and families is The Winnetu Oceanside Resort in Edgartown. Every time I stay here, I always leave relaxed, and completely impressed with how great this resort is. But the best part is that the resort is just a short, 5-minute walk to the most beautiful beach on the island.
Parents will love the complimentary Children’s Club daytime program, that will allow you a few hours each afternoon without the kiddos while they go off to a fun summer camp at the resort.
While The Winnetu is outside of Edgartown’s downtown, they offer free shuttle service, which allows you to not have a car, and also not worry about parking in this popular area. The ride into town is only about 5 minutes, too! Edgartown is one of the island’s most charming towns with lots to do, great shopping and dining, and accessible to Chappaquiddick Island.
If you do want the freedom of having a car for a day or two to explore the island, however, The Winnetu has a partnership with a local car rental service and they will drop-off/pick-up your rental right at the resort. They also offer Mini Cooper Convertibles, which is what my husband and I chose when we last stayed here.
Pro Tip: If you want to plan the ultimate coastal New England island vacation, you can arrange to visit both Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard in the same trip, and take the Hyline Cruises inter-island ferry between the two islands.

The Cliff House is one of the best New England resorts and spas for a coastal getaway in Maine in the summer. Hidden Pond is such a unique and fun destination in Kennebunkport that offer guests a quiet and tranquil getaway in the woods, but is also close to beautiful New England beaches. When you book a stay at Hidden Pond, you have your choice of the cutest little Maine-inspired cottages, many of which have front porches perfect for your morning cup of coffee, or an afternoon of curling up with a good book.
Hidden Pond is also home to Earth, which is one of the best restaurants in New England I’ve personally ever been to. They call it a Farm-to-Fork dining experience, as many of the ingredients come from their own organic gardens, and it’s truly a place you don’t want to miss. The decor inside is also amazing.
And while Hidden Pond is nestled in a quiet wooded area in Kennebunkport, it’s just 10-minutes away from Dock Square, and 15 minutes or so from the beaches.

The facility is first class. The staff is wonderful, accommodating and helpful in every way. Kudos to the management for creating this fabulous rustic and elegant resort. There is wonderful food in the dining room as well. This is a special spot. Worth going out of your way to visit.”
– TripAdvisor Review (read more here)
Many liken Migis Lodge to a true American vacation resort like the one we’ve all come to know and love in the movie Dirty Dancing. Migis includes all your meals and pretty much all activities in your room rate (motor sports and massages are extra), and you’re in an idyllic lakefront wooded area that feels a million miles away from the rest of the world.
Dining at Migis is a truly fun experience with summer cookouts and lobster bakes. And what I love about dining experiences in their lodge and terrace is that they require men to wear jackets, which is such a great way to really make eating out a true experience that should be savored and enjoyed.

Does New England Have All-Inclusive Resorts?
Yes, but they’re not as common as a la carte accommodations. From this list, Twin Farms, Migis Lodge and Canyon Ranch are all-inclusive (some activities may cost extra, but food, drinks and many activities are included).
Best Time Of Year For A New England Resort & Spa Getaway
This depends entirely on what you’re looking for! The great thing about New England being a four-season climate is that you can plan a vacation any time of the year.
Summer is really an amazing time in New England, especially along the coast, and this is my recommended time to visit coastal destinations. In the summer, everything comes to life, and all businesses and shops will be open, and the ocean water will be at its warmest.
The winter is a truly magical season to visit New England, and all the winter resorts do an amazing job celebrating what this time of the year is all about. You’ll find ice sculptures, ice skating, special winter menus and cocktails, igloo dining and more all over. This is such a wonderful region for a winter vacation, even if you’re not a skiier!
And, of course, fall is iconic in New England. We probably do fall the best here than any other area of the country. Vermont and New Hampshire are the best states to visit for fall foliage, and this is the perfect time to book a resort getaway if you’re hoping to see it.
Spring is all about coming back to life, and while weather in New England in the spring can be a bit unpredictable, this is a great time of year to take advantage of off-season rates pretty much all over the region. Spring is also a great time to book a spa and wellness getaway so that you can reset before a bustling summer season ahead.
